About the Book
This book is a pictorial diary of a voyage on Swan Hellenic's cruise ship Minerva during April 2014. The cruise started in Bridgetown, Barbados and then Minerva travelled nightly to three other Caribbean islands: St Lucia, Guadeloupe and Martinique, she then crossed the Atlantic to the Cape Verde before heading North East to the Canary Islands. The crossing from Martinique to Cape Verde is about 2300 nautical miles which took over seven days, sailing a course virtually due east at latitude 16 degrees. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny with little wind and most importantly only a small sea swell coming from the North East; a comfortable direction.
All the excursions were excellent, but the two that stood out for me was the visit to Hunte’s Gardens on Barbados and the hike in Mount Teide National Park on Tenerife. Essentially the wildlife was limited to birds and dolphins. In some cases I have placed the photographs of these in the book on the day they were seen, but I have also placed a collection of wildlife photographs towards the end of the book where you will also find a group of sunset photographs taken as we crossed the Atlantic.
Previewing the book will provide the reader with an insight of some of the amazing views and species that we experienced on this wonderful voyage.
Please be aware that the electronic versions of the book require a suitable size screen to be able to read the text and captions clearly and obtain a better previewing experience.
The author has no affiliations or connection with Swan Hellenic; He was just one of the fare paying passengers Minerva was carrying on the cruise.
Sadly Swan Hellenic ceased trading in January 2017.
