About the Book
Decades ago in a movie called Star Wars, the appearances of future soldiers wearing armor and helmets unprotected from enemy’s ray guns looked very ridiculous. Nowadays, as all mankind on this planet is experiencing the threat of a global epidemic of the coronavirus, the period of wearing a mask is getting longer than expected. No one is yet to be sure when we will be able to take off the mask. Maybe in the near future, people will have to wear armor rather than masks in order to survive the environmental changes caused by the increasingly serious destruction of nature and ecosystems. Before it becomes such a crisis, shouldn't we stop for a moment and deeply reflect on ourselves, who have been endlessly busy pursuing selfish desires against our neighbor and natural environment? I took pictures of people wearing masks on the streets of Seoul as they adjust to their new routine in the pandemic. If we remove the mask from these pictures, they are just ordinary scenes of everyday life that we hope to recover again. Like a wristwatch or a smartphone, the antiviral mask seems to be becoming a new normal for every human individual as a sign of this era.
