About the Book
An in-depth look at life as a transgender woman, Julia Grey pulls no punches. A revolutionary artist, whose canvas is a camera and body a brush, Julia Grey is a pioneer in her field. An ardent apprentice of light whose main influences are painters, (Caravaggio, Heade, Vermeer, etc) her work with long exposures, or OST (Open Shutter Techniqe) is largely uncharted territory, especially in the world of digital photography. Essentially, Julia opens her camera’s shutter and, using carefully controlled light, creates an image piece by piece. This technique allows for images that would otherwise be impossible when a camera is used in a traditional way. The result is a single exposure photograph that looks impossible or “photoshopped”, but it is neither. Mature content.
