About the Creator
At Marin College, in California, I studied painting with Ray Strong and, after visiting Harry Partch, built my own musical instruments. I also composed musique concrète and lighting for dancer Anna Halprin. I then majored in philosophy at UC Berkeley and filmmaking at USC in Los Angeles. I married Gloria Riefman and we had two sons, Paul and Christen. I made short films for Graphic Films and Churchill Films in Los Angeles – three of the best known being The Voyage of Odysseus, The Hundred Penny Box and A Kite Story. I made one independent feature film, Netherby Naps, in Yorkshire England, which took over 30 years to complete, as no deadline had been chosen. My partner since 1969 has been the author Leah Miller, who worked with me on the films that were made since then... and together we raised her two children : Richard and Corinne.
