About the Book
Maury Edelstein has lived in San Francisco for 90 years. Like the composer Charles Ives, who sold insurance while creating symphonies, Maury did the same while photographing this city of foghorns and trolleys, vibrant people, protests, and parades. His Edward Hopper-esque portraits are raw, intimate, and introspective; his festive images are gregarious, loquacious. In these photos of the North Beach neighborhood, Maury immortalizes the streets, the establishments, the hustle, and the humanity found in this enclave by the Bay.
