About the Book
Every year, our Black History Month issue celebrates Black art, Black creativity and Black lives. Since our last Black History Month issue the tensions brewing beneath the facade of America boiled up and over. We endured a global pandemic that killed a disproportionate number of Black people. We watched police murder George Floyd in the street. We witnessed Breonna Taylor’s killers roam free after they shot her in her own home. But we know these tragedies were not unique to 2020. These tragedies simply shed light on the white supremacy and racism that Black people have faced since this country’s inception. But we will continue to uplift Black voices and Black art in our community, not just in February, but all year long. Black Lives Matter.
