It doesn’t happen often in life where you are given a rare window of opportunity to tell someone how much you love them before it is too late. In the process of making this book, I mourned my mother before she was gone. But more importantly I was able to share the finished book with her on her birthday in April - Easter Sunday and that more than made up for all the tears and anguish I experienced putting the book together. I would only be in her company once after that day, but I have gone back to this book countless times since then and have solace in the thought that she knew how much I loved her.

All the paired images in the book, alongside the old photos, I took over the course of almost 15 years, at her home along the shores of Lake Michigan in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Her home was always a source of beauty, inspiration and wonder…much like her.
