About the Book
This isn't a sports photography book, nor is it a documentary photography book, but a blend of both.
As a sports photographer, I was keen to document what was going on behind me, the passion, the blood, guts, thunder and mud of non-league football, the project transformed to something else, a look at the non league football scene and the fans that stay away from the glamour clubs and their "glory hunting fans".
Oxford's journey to non-league football is well documented, financial crisis after financial crisis lurched the club into a position of consistently having to sell their best players and eventually the inevitable followed..the club tumbling out of The Football League in 2006, and found themselves as the only non-league team to have won a major honour, The League Cup.
After three seasons in the top tier of non-league football, Oxford are on the rise again, as I write this, (December 2009), standing 5 points clear at the top of the Blue Square Premiership.
As a sports photographer, the Oxford story intrigues me, with so much history wrapped up in the club, a league ground in waiting, perhaps no club deserves to be in The Football League as Oxford, for the fans this is a moment in 'their' big season.
