Often regarded as sad places, graves and cemeteries may also be fascinating, informative, and even heartwarming sights. They often tell us a lot about the lifestyle and aspirations of our predecessors. This book presents a collection of photos of burial sites in about 60 locations around the world. These sites range from the basic, like the ancient stone tumuli of the Sahara and the Kazakh graves of the Ustyurt plateau, to the opulent, like the magnificent mausoleums of Delhi and Samarkand, and from the quietly atmospheric, like the Okunoin in Koyasan, to the very colorful, like the cemeteries of the Oaxaca coast and the high Andes.
