About the Book
The days when Tri-X was the preferred roll of film used by many photojournalists. Each roll of film has 36 exposures only.
Michael Klinkhamer worked and lived in Cambodia since 2010 and shot most of his photo work for magazine assignments and later for his Cambodia photo tours company on digital media.
For me it's always about the people and Khmer culture. Portraits, moods, telling street stories and connecting to the people without spilling too many words.
Film photography makes me press the shutter button only when I have that gut feeling that this might actually work, and only then I shoot one or two exposures. A magazine is something you can hold in your hands.
Early 2022, I was able to get back to Cambodia after almost two years of closed borders due to Covid with a few rolls of 35mm film in my bag. This time I went out often shooting solo and a few times with clients during my Photo tours.
I also re-visited Angkor Wat, the epic centre of ancient Khmer culture and national Cambodian pride. Here you can follow a part of my photographic journey and my touching base with analog photography. A fight agains the grain it turned out to be.
It was a home coming experience and pictures came to me naturally, just like always in Cambodia.
That's reassuring and gives me good hope for the future.

About the Creator
All my life I have been fascinated by images. As a photographer I have been making portraits and reports for well-known "glossy" and news magazines for decades. In recent years 2010-2022 I have mainly been active in Southeast Asia with my photography workshops and photo travel company. In Cambodia, for 7 years we have provided daily photo tours and photo safari and social photography for NGOs such as Oxfam-Novib. Portrait, repo and street photography. This work has now resulted in an incredibly rich photo archive and I am currently publishing these photos and stories in Blurb magazines and books. Always looking for the intimate image that touches the eye on different layers plays an important role for me. Filters and bias obscure the truth. I like real and pure. With the Blurb publishing, I found an incredibly satisfying way to print my work in a personal way and publish photos outside the digital social media jungle. Books and printed magazines are long lasting and personal.
