About the Book
Florida is well known for its beaches, but do people really pay attention to the ecology of the Sunshine State? For this series, I am documenting the natural world of Florida’s beaches, including its flora and fauna. I want people to be more appreciative of the beauty that the beaches hold within, but also to show that it is not always gorgeous, as with beauty comes pain and sorrow. Thus, I will also be capturing the negative portions of the beaches, such as death and littering to bring attention to the environment that is at stake. I want people to keep the beaches in Florida clean and allow the animals to thrive, to see what people will be harming if they litter on the beach and what happens to it.
I decided to document the beaches around Jacksonville due to being born and raised in the city. I have lived near the beach ever since I can remember, and hold a great affinity towards them. The ocean is my second home, and I strive to show others the amazing ecosystem that inhabits it.
