Everyone is familiar with the phenomenon that works of art that would have to be perceived as “unattractive” or “ugly” according to the usual aesthetic standards can certainly have an aesthetic appeal. At the same time, the paradox describes the opposite case, certain things that are characterized by certain "beautiful" features are perceived as "aesthetically obtru- sive": they are too beautiful to be really beautiful.
