About the Creator
Paul Maven is a photographer originally from Sunderland, the former ship building centre on the north east coast of England. His genre straddling freelance career saw him providing commercial, corporate, editorial, social and wedding photography to clients across the UK. In tandem with this, he also continued to work on personal projects focusing mostly on the post industrial landscape. The themes he explored were inspired not only by the rapid dismantling of the heavy industry that surrounded him during his formative years, but also what he perceived as the cosmetic and cursory nature of what replaced it, both economically and structurally. His current output continues to explore the overarching theme of de-industrialisation and its consequences, whilst attempting also to examine how the often fractious relationship between redevelopment and protection of the environment impact upon these spaces.
