About the Book
Flowers bring a sense of wonder, beauty, and joy to our lives. Recent research reveals a fascinating, larger realm of intimate interaction within the plant kingdom both below ground and above. Vast fungal and root communications occur between plants and trees that are far beyond human perception. These findings, paired with current discoveries of intelligence within the animal kingdom spur a reassessment of our relationship to the non-human world. Perhaps we are not the center of everything! Perhaps we are wrong to evaluate other beings exclusively through our human filter. Emily Dickinson may have been prescient in her poem “Bloom” when she wrote, “To be a flower is a profound responsibility.”

My fascination with images began with a career in Diagnostic Radiology. Upon retirement, stepping out of the reading room into the digital world of photography was a natural evolution. My focus inevitably segued to another life-long passion — flowers, especially perennials. Using a macro lens, I explored the mysteries of floral anatomy unnoticed by the naked eye. Once enlarged, the wonder of the reproductive, pollinating parts of blooms bursts into view.
