About the Book
It’s only fitting that the Motor City is home to “America’s Greatest Hot Rod Show”.
But Did-you-know that Detroit is also home to perhaps the most prestigious High School Automotive Technology program in the Country?
In 1973, Second-Generation High School Auto Tech Instructor Paul Tregembo Sr. and his students decided to convert a donated 1961 Plymouth Valiant into a show car, then enter it into the 21st Annual Detroit Autorama. The Valiant finished 2nd in its debut and inspired the young team of car guys and gals to build another project for the following year’s show. What started as a simple “let’s see what we can do” turned into a decade’s long tradition at Detroit’s Cobo Center (now Huntington Place).
For 50 years now, Tregembo and the students of DRIVE One have built a legacy at “America’s Greatest Hot Rod Show”. Hot Rod High has always been more than just oil and brake changes: it’s a safe-haven where students have spent their class and after-school time building and restoring beautiful and award-winning project cars.
To celebrate the program's Golden Anniversary at "America's Greatest Hot Rod Show", DRIVE One has compiled an official photo album, documenting all 70+ student-built project vehicles and competitions from 1973 to current. This incredible book includes hundreds of never before seen photographs, and is the perfect gift for any former students who ever participated in a student build. Plus, it features a sneak preview of the upcoming PBS Documentary "Detroit: City of Hot Rods and Muscle Cars", featuring DRIVE One and the Tregembos.
Proceeds of the sales of "DRIVE One: 50 Years At Autorama" benefit DRIVE One and it students.
