About the Book
Interventions in Commerce documents creative interventions into commercial worlds. Seven artists created new messaging for the IKEA in Canton, Michigan. Projects responded to spaces and products meant to be seen as rationale and homey but often removed from the specificities of the real world. Interventions re-contextualized products for the Muslim home, introduced the fleshy, squishy noisiness of being human to the “livable” showrooms, designated expansive fantasy display rooms as practical solutions for a US housing market with low inventory, and responded to other aspects of IKEA. The second intervention took place in an independent, family-run store, from the viewpoint of employment and ownership.
