About the Book
The capital of South Australia, Adelaide is a city of some 1.4 million people. Located on a narrow plain between hills to the east and the sea to the west, it covers approximately 870 square kilometres.
In 2022-23 I walked 80 km from the Gawler in the north to Noarlunga in the south, and from where the River Torrens flows onto the plain at Athelstone to where it enters the sea some 34 km west at West Beach.
While the end points were fixed, every intersection along the way presented a choice - turn left and later right; turn right and later left; or walk straight on. Each decision was based solely on what looked more interesting at the time. As the master photographer Guido Guidi said “The journey is an opportunity to get lost, to discover paths.” A different decision at any intersection would have led to a different route and a different book.
