About the Book
The Preakness Stakes is held annually on the third Saturday in May at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The race almost always attracts the Kentucky Derby winner, some of the horses that ran in the Derby, and often a few horses that did not start in the Derby. The Preakness is considered a proving ground for the Kentucky Derby winner, who tries to take the second leg and head into New York with a shot at the Triple Crown. But it is also a place where “fresh” horses that bypassed the Derby offer a new challenge. The Preakness is only two weeks after the Derby, a turnaround most horses haven’t faced and will never again.
