About the Book
Buildings sites are liminal spaces that suggest what is to come whilst retaining
a connection with the mud from which they emerge.
Both Glazier and Stimakovits seem fascinated with these transitional states; states where things are on the point of emerging or disappearing, where everything is potential, suggestive of possibilities. These transitional spaces often display the bones of a building, later to be hidden, enclosed by and essential to the eventual facade. Or, as with Stimakovits' veils, they hide and cocoon the process of transformation. In both cases one has a sense of theatre, with the curtains about to lift.
Photographing building sites could be seen as perfect analogy to looking deeper into the world, with all its hidden structures; trying to capture the allusive character of that which lies beneath appearance.
A quality that both photographers exhibit is that of being able to retain the documentary aspect of photography and yet allow the subject to infer and carry the possibility of other levels, other readings of perception.
