About the Book
This booklet is based on a series of recollections written by Gerald S. Grant, during the 1960s after he had retired from his teaching career and was living in Oshawa, Ontario. The documents are undated, but for the most part they tell the story of his experiences as a boy growing up in Trinidad, and then during his youth in San Fernando and in his later years in Port of Spain. While Gerald’s documents tell of his early life and education, they also describe in great detail his experiences in the early 1920s when he was given charge of a small cocoa estate called Santa Maria, which was situated in the southwestern part of the island of Trinidad.
