    About the Book

    Edit

The artist Mariet Braakman (1944-2021) was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to the United States in 1983. She received her formal education as Arts teacher in the Netherlands. The scope of Mariet’s work, presented in this book written by her husband, begins with her earliest works and ends with the large painting (diptych) she created during the last months of her life. Through works on paper and canvas, Mariet connected with the natural and structural shapes of her surrounding landscape and leads viewers into a deeper awareness of natural forms. The transformation from figurative forms to a minimalist line and bold use of color within the chronology of her life presents an engrossing story.

The book contains 125 photos of Mariet’s artworks with an emphasis on the last 20 years of her life. Professional descriptions by Suzanne Tan of the “Series” of Mariet’s paintings completed after the year 2000 are included.
