About the Book
For the benefit of anyone who reads this account of some of my experiences during World War II, it should be understood that I have written it for my sons, Malcolm and Duncan, their wives, Kathy and Jana, and their children. To my Grandsons, Cameron and Errol, I admit I sometimes have given you a quick answer to a question that could more properly be answered in written form like this. My Granddaughters, Seaghna, Danaan and Fiona, have not had many questions yet, but as they study history, and question human behavior, perhaps this account will be meaningful to them. I want to acknowledge the assistance of my wife, Jeanne, for correcting my mistakes, applying her computer skills, and doing whatever an editor does to make a document presentable. This project caused me to dig out my war medals, the silver polish, and buy a frame to exhibit them. On our 25th Wedding Anniversary I had purchased a nice silver chain and given her my Canadian Efficiency Medal to wear around her neck, representing 25 years of “Efficient Service.” The fact that I have now taken it back from her during our 46th wedding year is no reflection on her continued efficiency.
