About the Book
I first started climbing aged 28 in the Alps, during a summer leave from the Middle East in 1962 with three 4.000 meters in Zermatt. Although my first climbing diary proper starts near the end of 1965, I had more than sufficient notes to cover the intervening period down to 1964 when I was sent by Shell to work in Laos, the only Alpine season I missed for over 50 years. In 1965, I had an intense month’s climbing with a guide while on leave from Oman, and this is the only season that I have no notes on, beyond a list of our climbs; but memory is supplemented by numerous photos.
