About the Book
Ollie DeSilva is a senior at Falmouth High School in Falmouth, Maine. His life was completely disrupted on March 14, 2018 when he suffered a massive stroke that changed the trajectory of his life. This story describes the harrowing days following his stroke and powerfully recounts the multitude of struggles he faced during the long and difficult rehabilitation process. While initially he couldn’t walk, talk, or even sit up on his own, he slowly and methodically applied himself to therapy and embarked on the long, complex road to neurological recovery. He recounts having to persevere through a series of seemingly endless challenges while always struggling to remain optimistic. His efforts come together when he trains for and runs the Maine Marathon three and a half years after his stroke. Accompanied by the voice of his dad, Eliot, Ollie takes us through his arduous journey and amazing recovery–and describes his transformation into a new person along the way.
