About the Book
The island marble butterfly (Euchloe ausonides insulanus) is one of the rarest butterflies in North America. It was believed to have been extinct for ninety years before being rediscovered on San Juan Island, Washington in 1998. It has been listed as an endangered species since 2020 and recovery efforts have been undertaken by multiple governmental agencies in conjunction with conservation partner organizations. Here is a glimpse into the life cycle of the island marble, the butterfly's habitat, and the current threats facing this imperiled species as described through a collection of short poems and illustrated with photographs.
