About the Book
The Berachah Industrial Home for the Redemption of Erring Girls operated in Arlington, Texas, from 1903 to 1935. Run by the Rev. James T. Upchurch and his wife Maggie Upchurch, the home took in homeless (or unwanted) women and girls, usually pregnant, from Texas and the surrounding states. The home kept ledgers of applications received and a numerical inventory of the girls and babies on hand. The girls are rarely named.
