About the Book
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Peter underwent a stroke that necessitated immediate emergency procedures at his local hospital. After stabilizing there, he received specialized rehabilitation at a facility far from home while navigating the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Upon returning home post-discharge, he embarked on a lengthy journey to create a graphic comic documenting his first thirty days dealing with the stroke and his initial path to recovery. This unique medium allowed him to visually depict the history of his stroke, the obstacles he encountered, and the subsequent therapies. The graphic comic showcases the collaborative efforts of a team of experts, including Occupational and Physiotherapists, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, as well as the unwavering support from his family, all of whom played a crucial role in his recovery.
"Different Strokes for Different Folks" is a series of individual cartoon panels that collectively delve into the author's personal journey of stroke recovery. This creative project not only served as a means of self-expression but also empowered him to take control of his recuperation. Each panel is crafted to evoke specific emotions or convey messages related to the obstacles faced during the initial stages. Through a blend of humour and introspection, these panels encourage viewers to reflect on their own experiences with adversity and find moments of connection.
