About the Book
A short book, recording a long weekend near the Russian border in Finland. In this unspoilt land of lakes and forest the bears are protected. They are accustomed to visit the area each evening by the supply of fresh salmon, but we were grateful to be sheltered by solid wooden hides. We arrived in the late afternoon but were not allowed to leave before morning, to minimise the risk of our meeting a bear in the open on our walk back through the woods. During the summer 'night' at this northerly latitude it never really became dark. The book begins with views of the habitat and some of the other wildlife of the region, including birds of prey attracted by the bears' food.
