About the Book
During this travel course to Japan, we focused on exploring the coherence between Eastern and Western design principles in both the past and present. Through observing "Japanese Forms," we aim to answer the overarching question of "what is the appropriate way of appropriation." This book is the final synthesis of my takeaways. Giwafu is the principle of taking past wisdom and innovating with purpose. Cultural crossover is ubiquitous and a physical sign of modernization. These textiles were inspired by the observed Japanese Forms' marination in local climatic conditions. This book records the design process, the making process, and my future considerations for the two-week making process of these samples.
