About the Book
These photographs were taken in the 1980's in New York City and Brooklyn while I was attending Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. I shot with Nikon F series SLR cameras, a 50mm lens and film. My shooting grounds were: Canal Street, Parades, Coney Island, and Atlantic Ave and Sixth Avenue.
It was a time before the city was too cleaned up; before AIDS, Madonna music pumping all night long in all the Clubs, boomboxes, breakdancers, cheap thrift store finds, graffiti, punks with mohawks in the East Village, everyone smoking cigarettes, the Twin Towers stood tall, Times Square was sleazy, New York was dirty, gritty, beautiful and alive.
