About the Book
This book is about how we see ourselves, how we see others and how the "They" see us. Portraits accompanied by revealing narratives, drawn from interviews with 20 residents of Arlington County, Virginia, about their own experiences of prejudice and discrimination. Geographically, Arlington is the smallest county in the United States but has one of the most diverse populations. The work speaks to the ways each person has found to navigate the lines between individual identity and group identity. It asks us to see ourselves in The They.
