About the Book
Whilst researching the various items of railway history for the railways of South Australia, I was truly astounded at how interesting it was. Having researched for my other publications, I could not believe the amount of history attached to the rail system in South Australia. No doubt, with the state at one time operating 3 different rail gauges, which in itself was not common to any other state in Australia, made the history even more interesting.
It became a labour of knowledge, the more I learnt about the system, the more I wanted to learn. Unfortunately, this publication only covers the rail system in an overview not a fully detailed account, more is the pity.

During my 37 year career on the footplate for the Victorian Railways, with 30 of those as a Locomotive Driver, I had the opportunity to take many photographs relating to the VR system. I also had a 10 week tour around Australia in 1981. Since retiring in 2002 I have made trips to the various states which has allowed me to add to my photo collection.
