About the Book
Fifty years after the fact, the photographic journal from a single extended trip round the world is taken from storage, restored and committed to paper. The photographs are by Dr. James D. Bales, the year was 1958 and the subjects range from street peddlers to heads of state and from common street scenes to recognizable landmarks in places from Japan and Korea to Thailand, India, Iraq, Egypt, Greece and France.
While the complete narrative may be lost, the photos stand on their own, capturing a picture in time from not so long ago but a great distance removed from the world today.
