About the Book
Back in 2005, we saw a documentary on Animal Planet called 'Growing up Marsupial'. The show followed 3 people who were raising orphaned babies. A spotted quoll, two Tasmanian devils, and a wombat were carefully taken care of by their new human parents. Before I knew it, Anna fell in love with Rosie the wombat and wanted to become a Wombat Mommy. Her obsession with wombats did not fade.
In Summer 2006 I decided to make Anna's dream come true and booked a vacation down under. We spent countless hours planning every aspect of our trip. We chose 3 very different cities: Melbourne, Adelaide & Brisbane. Our plan was not to stay too long in the major cities, but to travel far and wide, visiting as many animal sanctuaries as possible. The only requirement was that we had to see, and hopefully cuddle, at least one wombat.
To help chronicle our adventure, we set up an online blog. Knowing our friends were following our every move, we eagerly added photos and comments. The blog continues it existence online, but now takes the form of a book, with the addition of more photographs I took on our journey.
