About the Book
My grandfather Mussij (the name is a variant of Moses) wrote a journal of his family's daily experiences as they attempted to emigrate to the United States after World War II. Starting in Kremsmünster in Austria, my grandfather, his wife, and their children made their way through a number of postwar resettlement and displaced persons camps in Austria and Germany, to finally arrive in New York.
I transcribed my grandfather's journal for archival and genealogical purposes, and my father Borys corrected the text and added supplemental information to the journal entries. Nevertheless, most of the text comes from the original journal, the first three pages of which are reproduced at the end of this volume. My father and I translated the journal into English so that other members of our family could learn about this fascinating time in our family's history.
