My first trip outside of the state of Texas with the Urban Camper initiative was to Charleston, South Carolina to visit my brother and his family who live there. Although there would not be any camping on this trip, it did encompass my unique planning and execution in order to see the whole city in just a few days. What I did not take into account was the plans of my little niece Gracie.



The plan called for me to take a long road trip with my parents. My father and I split the driving as we roared down Interstate 10 though Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and finally Florida where we hooked up with Interstate 95 out of Jacksonville to Charleston. Of course none of us being spring chickens any longer, we had to make several pit stops along the way.



Charleston is a town of very rich history, specifically in the history of the southern slave trade. I got to see Fort Moultrie, The Citadel and a horse and carriage ride around downtown Charleston. One of the highlights of my trip was getting to tour the U.S.S. Yorktown.



This is just a sampling of my first trip to Charleston. Next time I visit I'll definitely have to do a more in depth tour of this great city. Hope you enjoy the pics and look for next years trip where I'm heading to Washington, D.C.
