About the Book
The ancient holiday of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), is alive in the 21st century, and is told here in photographs of people, celebrations and displays. Photographer Juliane Backmann, traveled to Oaxaca , Mexico , where the holiday was initiated by the ancients, and to Los Angeles , California , where the event is undergoing a renaissance in the modern world. Witness how the spirits of departed loved ones are commemorated in both large public events and in private celebrations in the two cultures.
