About the Book
IN THE FIRST PLACE offers a portrait of a place seen through the filter of past and present relationships of belonging.
The images were made between June 2005 and July 2011, using digital compact cameras. To a great extent, the book can be regarded as a result of the increasing democratisation of the photographic medium brought about by its digitalisation.
NB! The texts in the book were revised in July 2013. Please contact me if you already own a copy of IN THE FIRST PLACE: I'll e-mail you a Word file containing the new edit of the texts, and send you a 'snail-mail' thank-you card made from one of the images used in the book.
Dana Iordan on IN THE FIRST PLACE:
"Even from the preview, it feels like a magic journey for the viewer, too. The material subjects attract the attention and gently inform it without trapping it; they're rather signposts for another type of substance, a much subtler one, that of consciousness."
