About the Book
Very often Troeller takes self-portraits to re-enter her life, feel an emotion, and verify that she is here. She recognizes that photography enables her to feel strong and reclaim herself. She uses the camera as a method for healing, and through her work she overcomes her weaknesses.
These images function as a conduit for tearing herself apart and rebuilding her self-esteem. Knowing and accepting who she is, how she looks and what she wants—is very important to her as a woman.
For Troeller, a photograph could be radiation or it could be radiating. She likes the dual aspect. It allows her to reflect on things that take her forward or give her pause. There is a sense of timelessness and daydream.
