About the Book
“My inspiration for the project was José, a street kid, who offered to help me in 2005. On a dark street in Dili, José offered to jump in my car and provide directions but asked for a dollar which was and still is a day’s salary for most Timorese. I didn’t trust him but in the end, José refused to take the money and said, ‘I just wanted to help’. His generosity humbled me. I’ll probably never see José again but his behaviour challenged the negative preconceptions I held about my own country and inspired me to embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. This collection is the culmination of that journey. I hope these images take you to a place where humility and greatness is omnipresent.” Jorge de Araujo
