About the Book
This book is a short history of my visits to ESP over a few years. It is an 80 page book full of both black and white and color plates I shot at different times of the year and day. The prison is a landmark and a beautiful landscape full of architecture and history. Eastern State was a spectacle worldwide and visitors came from all over to step inside the massive stone walls only to find a desolate place where silence and segregation were the law. Many inmates in early years either committed suicide or went stir crazy until finally the state got rid of this silent treatment and relaxed many of the harsh rules and encouraged hobbies and jobs until it closed in 1970 outdated and over crowded. This is Rob's first book of published photos and the first in a series. He is currently working on another book of Philly landmarks with short stories accompanying each chapter.
