About the Book
This is a series of photographs I shot in Kibera.
I was on a job for BBC World Service with part of the shoot in Kibera. Immediately as you enter the slums, the extremity of the situation hits you on many levels. The many people living in such cramped conditions, and the imposing smell and muddy surroundings is impossible to escape. It was such contrast to my normal environment.
I felt I needed to return and a few day later I spend most of a day, filming and photographing people who lived there. As I was told many times that day, ‘this is not living, this is just surviving.’
All profit from this book will go to youth media projects in Kibera to develop young talent and help them tell their story.
