About the Book
Returning to this photographic project 30 years later I intend to seek out people who lived in the areas I documented and record memories and their personal stories. Photographs are one way of generating memories and experiences of the past for the people that lived then but it is also a means by which younger generations can discover what it was like in former times. It should not be forgotten that photographic images are just a glimpse of the past taken subjectively and selectively by the photographer. Photographs taken of the past and present are all subject to interpretation but they offer an invaluable record for the future. The set of photographs in this book show images I have taken as part of this project from the late 70’s and in the last 12 years. The project continues.

About the Creator
Professional photography by Phil Portus ARPS EFIAP DPAGB BPE4* I am a professional photographer based in south Manchester. I specialise in portrait photography and especially enjoy photographing musicians whether jazz, classical or pop, either in performance or in my Didsbury studio. I also enjoy capturing the day’s events of weddings from the bride’s preparation in the morning, to the couples’ first dance at the reception. My studio photography also extends to families and children to capture those moments to remember. Photography has always been my life’s passion and my camera is constantly at my side, with the aim of capturing the excitement of a festival, the splendour of a landscape or the gritty urban reality of a mill town in Manchester. My photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally and I have gained several awards from salon competitions. In recent years I have been awarded the BPE 4th crown and the international EFIAP distinction
