About the Book
The photographs of this book were taken between 2004 and 2008 in northern India, primarily in the city of Varanasi on the River Ganga.
The areas explored are on sanctified ground or at its periphery. In the labyrinthine streets surrounding temples and mosques, on the stone steps descending to the Ganga, around the smoldering pyres of cremation grounds, the edge between what is mundane and what is holy dissolves.
The two realms coalesce.
