    Mountains in the Sea

    The Archipelago of St Kilda

    Beka Globe

This collection of images document a profoundly powerful place, the Archipelago of St Kilda, the remotest part of the British Isles 41 miles (66 kilometres) west of The Outer Hebrides.

It’s islands with their exceptional cliffs and sea stacs form the most important seabird breeding station in north-west Europe and the evacuation of its native people in 1930 brought to an end an extraordinary story of survival.

    Beka Globe
    Outer Hebrides, Scotland

Beka Globe came to Harris when she was just 11 years old. She studied photography and darkroom techniques at Napier University in Edinburgh. There she was inspired by Ansel Adams’ landscapes, Paul Strand’s portraits and Hiroshi Sugimoto’s seascapes. Having traveled extensively, photographing America and New Zealand she returned to the Hebrides to explore her roots in the landscape she first viewed through the lens. Here she captures an emotive vastness, depth and simplicity. Her silent images are deeply moving, stirring a particular sense of place. She produces fine art prints to the highest standards with archival grade Hahnemuhle Paper and Pigment Based inks, which are available online or by visiting the studio. Mission House Studio Finsbay.
