About the Book
"Cirrus - Transpac 2008" tells the story of local Hawaiian girl Lindsey Austin and her participation in the 2007 Transpac Yacht Race on the sailboat Cirrus. Inspired by the Roy Disney proposal to enter a boat crewed only by youthful sailors Lindsey and her mother Donna assembled an all women crew and entered the race using Bill Myers' boat Cirrus and Bill joined the crew as navigator. Lindsey has been a Coast Guard Licensed Captain since she was 17 and she was in charge. At the time Lindsey was 22 and the 2nd youngest woman skipper in Transpac history, and the youngest ever from Hawaii. She and her crew delivered the boat from Hawaii back to Long Beach and on 9 July 2007 they set out with the first wave of boats in a dramatic 2300 mile downwind race to Diamond Head. After a total of almost 5000 miles (including the delivery) of open ocean sailing Lindsey and her crew brought Cirrus in to a 1st Place finish in Division Aloha B. The book tells the story of the whole exciting adventure. It is about 200 pages long and lavishly illustrated with more than 160 photos.
