A young girl, in outback Australia, finds an abandoned emu egg just as it is hatching. She names the newborn chick "Rascal" and he travels with her on her bike. As he grows, Rascal lives up to his name as he gets up to all sorts of mischief He eventually becomes a very responsible grown up emu.

Kylie wrote "Rascal" when she was seven years old and had indeed been caring for an abandoned emu chick that she found out near Cooper Creek in western Queensland.
