About the Book
Mittie Jackson Wilson was born February 27, 1894, a daughter of Charles Lee and Nellie Matthews Jackson. She lived her entire life in Guilford County, North Carolina. She had six brothers, was the oldest child and the only daughter. She started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at age sixteen.
As a life long member of Deep River Friends Meeting, she continued to be an active member up until the last few years of her life.
She was a good mother and a very special grandmother.
She was married to Hugh Thomas Wilson on December 26, 1923. From this marriage, there were three children: Doris Marie Wilson, Howard Gilmer Wilson and Nina Sue Wilson. She had twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Her marriage did not last and she lived at the home place for the remainder of her life. Hugh Wilson died on October 5, 1972 and was buried in the Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Sometimes at a family gathering and often times through a phone call or letter. Little by little I have received many memories from grand children and friends about my Mother, Mittie J. Wilson. Now its years later and we are still gathering information from a forgotten time in the past. One question to a cousin will bring a flood of memories.
It is my intent that this book will be a tribute to mother that we will be proud to have. Hopefully, this will be a book read and treasured by many especially the younger great grandchildren.
