About the Book
The purpose of this book is to increase awareness and promote a non-violent approach to solving conflict. I want to call attention to the effects of media violence on youth. One major effect is “desensitization”. So many young people have become desensitized to violence without even knowing it. Desensitization basically is the theory that tolerance of real life violence grows because of media-depicted violence. As a result, specific levels of violence become more acceptable over time.
I feel this research can be a valuable way to increase awareness of this problem. My plan is to make my audience think about the violence they see, realize that it isn’t normal and think before they react to situations in their daily lives.
It used to be taboo to turn on the TV and see a woman getting slapped across the room, brutally raped or shot in the middle of the street. Now all you have to do is turn on the TV and wait a few minutes. Since when did this become normal?
