About the Book
This large-format collection of recent color photographs of the Oregon landscape is by the former head of the photography program at Philadelphia's University of the Arts. Having grown up in Washington County, Oregon, the photographer returned to his home state in 2009 upon retiring from his final teaching post in Japan. Oregon Trails presents a portfolio of exposures made primarily on hikes in Oregon's state and national parks, extending his previous volume Trees. As does that volume, Oregon Trails includes a number of natural images that connect with allusionist themes in abstract work Greenfield produced in his early career in the 1960s and 1970s.

Jerry Greenfield, MFA, EdD, is Professor Emeritus at Miyazaki International College in Japan, where he taught from 1997 to 2008. He studied photography with Minor White at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at Rhode Island School of Design. Prior to moving to Japan, he had a long career teaching photography at the University of Massachusets-Boston, Indiana University-Bloomington, and The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was head of the Media Arts Department and Coordinator of Graduate Programs. His photographs have been exhibited widely and are in a number of public collections in the United States.
